This book aims to summarize the state of the art of the different issues regarding the detection, identification and quantification of processed animals proteins (PAP) in feedingstuffs. It has been written in such a way that could be useful for the implementation of the discussed methods in the control and research laboratories. For each method discussed, a short description of the technique is given with references to other relevant books and websites useful to the reader to get more in depth. Special emphasis has been put on the rules and tricks that have to be respected for the correct application of the techniques for the analysis of processed animal proteins in feedingstuffs. The potential of each method (including the fit for purpose and robustness) as well as future perspectives are discussed.
This book has been written during the 2009-2010 period by several experts coming from research, control and feed laboratories and has the ambition to be a reference for the correct implementation and development of methods in laboratories performing or planning to perform the detection, identification and/or quantification of processed animal proteins in feendingstuffs.
This book includes three sections. The first section is devoted to the feed chain specificity, the processed animal proteins history, the legislative aspects as well as the analytical needs. The second section of this book concerns the analytical methods aiming the detection of particles of animal origin (i.e. classical microscopy, NIR infrared microscopy and NIR imaging methods). The third section is focused on methods aiming the detection of DNA (i.e. PCR) and proteins (i.e. Immunology, HPLC/MS) as well as the combination of techniques.

Famed for her film Arctic Hysteria, Arke died of cancer at 48, and her work has only gained recognition over the past decade. An overview of recycling as an activity and a process, following different materials through the waste stream. Is there a point to recycling? Is recycling even good for the environment? In this volume in the MIT Press Essential Knowledge series, Finn Arne Jørgensen answers (drumroll, please): it depends. From a technical point of view, recycling is a series of processes--collecting, sorting, processing, manufacturing. Recycling also has a cultural component; at its core, recycling is about transformation and value, turning material waste into something useful--plastic bags into patio furniture, plastic bottles into T-shirts. Fisheries policy in Bangladesh is still trying to get to grips with the major dilemmas of maximizing benefits from natural resources. During the 20th century Bangladesh adopted one-sided production-oriented policies in the agricultural sector to feed its rapidly growing population. This strategy included increasing fish production, then in decline mainly as a result of environmental degradation brought about by the expansion of agriculture. The solution was to develop aquaculture and later to promote culture-based fisheries and large-scale stocking in the floodplains and beels (lakes) that previously sustained capture fisheries. Although fish production per se in many cases may have increased as a result of this type of intervention, benefits have not been socially and environmentally sustainable. This document reviews and discusses the development of culture-based fisheries and community-based fisheries management in Bangladesh with regard to socio-economic impacts as well as environmental effects and biodiversity loss.
Des protestants dans les " pays portugais " ? Ne sont-ils pas tous catholiques ? La situation contemporaine est bien plus complexe.
Personne ne nie le rôle historiquement structurant du catholicisme au Portugal, au Brésil, dans les pays africains de langue officielle portugaise et dans les communautés émigrées. Le protestantisme est certes minoritaire dans chaque pays concerné, mais la notion de marge qui peut en découler est bien différente selon les terrains. Au Portugal, la lente renaissance du protestantisme au XIXe siècle n'a pas remis en cause l'hégémonie catholique.
En revanche au Brésil, le protestantisme, depuis les traditions luthériennes issues de l'immigration allemande jusqu'aux formes syncrétiques de néo-pentecôtisme, est désormais une réalité massive : grâce à lui, le monde lusophone est la deuxième aire du protestantisme mondial. En Afrique, le protestantisme est " marginal " uniquement dans la mesure où, sauf aux îles du Cap-Vert et à Sào Tomé e Principe, l'ensemble du christianisme reste minoritaire face aux religions traditionnelles ou à l'islam (Guinée-Bissau, nord du Mozambique).
Mais le protestantisme n'y est-il pas, à la différence d'un catholicisme longtemps compromis avec la dictature salazariste, une marge politique ? La recherche récente relativise des clichés trop simples : si la hiérarchie catholique en Afrique est restée fidèle au régime, il n'en alla pas de même de l'ensemble des missionnaires ou des prêtres noirs, et certains protestants ont collaboré avec le régime.
Au Brésil, si la théologie de l'abondance portée par le néo-pentecôtisme est antagonique à la théologie de la libération, on note toutefois que le Parti des travailleurs recrute aussi des pentecôtistes. Une telle diversité rend fort complexe la recherche sur le " protestantisme lusophone ". En effet les pesanteurs sociales issues de la longue histoire " luso-catholique " demeurent. Par ailleurs, une fois implantées dans des pays de langue portugaise, des Eglises qui leur sont à l'origine extérieures diffusent ensuite leurs réseaux, sautant du Brésil au Cap-Vert ou au Portugal, et, de là, dans les émigrations de ces pays à Paris...
